Controltablism evolves into MidiTablism and meets the new Ableton Link technology. In the video Serato DJ, Pioneer DJM-S9 and Ableton Live communicate via MIDI with Cue Point Mapping. Performance includes Cue Point Sequencing and Cue Clip Launching techniques through the Ableton Push 2 controller.
Description of video performance
A journey into the art of sampling with the live remake of the songs “Straight Outta Compton” and “Come On My Selector”, in common the sampling of the song “Amen, Brother” with its “Amen Break”, the most sampled drum-solo in the history of music (sampled in more than 5,000 songs according to WhoSampled.com). During performance, the Amen Break has been slowed down on “Straight Outta Compton”, while on “Come On My Selector” has been speeded up with the addition of “Think (About It)” sample. Ableton Link technology plays a key role in transitions between various BPMs as shown in the following diagram:

Cue Clip Launching
Serato DJ cue points are triggered with the MIDI clip launching from Ableton Push. Clips are created with Cue Point Sequencing through Ableton Push step sequencer or directly into the Ableton Live piano roll. Each individual clip can control rhythm sequences up to 128 cue points simultaneously!

Final recommendations
Ableton Live’s audio output is from computer mini-jack and connected to DJM-S9’s Aux in. It is also recommended to quantize Beatgrid on Serato DJ, especially the tracks from 60’s and 70’s where drums are recorded without the grid of modern sequencers.

I cue point di Serato DJ vengono innescati con il lancio delle clip MIDI da Ableton Push. Le clip sono create con il Cue Point Sequencing tramite lo step sequencer di Ableton Push o direttamente nel piano roll di Ableton Live. Ogni singola clip può controllare le sequenze ritmiche fino ad un massimo di 128 cue points contemporaneamente!

Suggerimenti Finali
L’uscita audio di Ableton Live è tramite l’uscita mini-jack del Mac e collegata all’ingresso Aux del DJM-S9. Inoltre si raccomanda di quantizzare il Beatgrid dei brani su Serato DJ, soprattutto nei brani degli anni ’60 e ’70 in cui la batteria è registrata senza la griglia dei sequencer moderni.
